Your Municipality Can Provide You with Equipment
If you have a permanent physical or mental disability and need support in daily life—whether at home or work—you can apply to your municipality in Denmark for a subsidy for equipment.
Your personal finances do not affect your eligibility for support.
The municipality assesses both your need and the most appropriate and cost-effective solution. The subsidy might cover everything, though sometimes there is a co-payment, depending on the product.
In this article, you’ll find answers to the following questions:
👉 What equipment can I receive a subsidy for?
👉 How do I apply for equipment?

What Equipment Can I Receive a Subsidy For?
Equipment can help compensate for reduced functionality, make daily activities easier, or increase your independence despite a disability.
You can get subsidies for mobility aids like walkers, wheelchairs, toilet chairs, as well as smaller aids like bath benches, grabbers, raised toilet seats, incontinence products, stoma aids, ergonomic kitchen tools, or bandages.
The municipality may either loan you the equipment for free or provide a subsidy for you to purchase it.
How to Apply for Equipment Through Your Municipality

If applying online isn't possible—for example, due to a visual impairment—contact your municipality for assistance.
It's crucial to apply before making any purchases, as the municipality needs to assess your needs first.
In your application, describe the challenges you face daily and how the equipment can address your disability. Additional documentation, like a note from your doctor or hospital, might be required for assessment.
You're Free to Choose Your Equipment Supplier
When the municipality grants equipment, they always choose the most affordable solution that meets your needs. You'll receive equipment that's functional and safe, though not necessarily the priciest or most advanced option.
Based on your grant, you generally have the right to choose under § 112 of the Service Act. This means you can select your equipment from a supplier you prefer, perhaps opting for a different model, color, or function than what your municipality provides.
The municipality, however, subsidizes only up to the price they would pay — if you choose a more expensive product, you must cover the difference.
