Enjoy greater freedom to get around

A rollator can make a real difference for people with limited mobility. This mobility aid can help improve the user’s quality of life and give them greater freedom in everyday life.

Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Safety: First, a rollator can improve the user’s safety and stability. Getting around can be difficult with limited mobility or balance problems, but a rollator can provide the support and stability the user needs. Rollators have sturdy wheels and a strong frame, giving users a more stable base as they move. This can help people with balance problems or weakened leg muscles feel safer and less likely to fall when using a rollator.
  • Independence: A rollator can also give users greater independence and freedom. With a rollator, they can continue getting around and carrying out daily activities on their own. This can give them a stronger sense of independence and support a more active lifestyle. Rollators are also well suited to trips and travel, allowing users to maintain their lifestyle even when they’re away from home.
  • Health: A rollator can also benefit the user’s physical health. Using one to get around can help maintain or improve physical health. It can also help prevent falls and injuries that could have a negative impact on health.

All in all, a rollator is an excellent mobility aid for people with reduced mobility who want to maintain their independence and continue with their daily activities.

There are two main types of rollators: indoor and outdoor models, each designed for use in different environments.

Should I choose an indoor or outdoor rollator?

Indoor and outdoor rollators are generally designed for different purposes and needs:

Indoor rollators

  • Narrower and easier to manoeuvre around the home
  • Fitted with smaller wheels for smooth floors
  • Ideal for narrow hallways, doorways and small rooms

Outdoor rollators

  • Larger wheels with better shock absorption
  • Built to handle gravel, cobblestones and uneven paths
  • A wider frame and more robust construction for added safety

In short, indoor rollators offer flexibility at home, while outdoor models provide shock absorption and extra stability when you’re out and about.

Remember: an outdoor rollator can also be used indoors, as long as there’s enough space in your home. An indoor rollator, on the other hand, is designed for home use only.

We only stock folding rollators

Thankfully, modern rollators are designed to fold up. One of the main benefits of a folding rollator is its compact size, which makes it easy to transport and store—especially in small cars or homes with limited space.

Every rollator on this page is foldable, so you can count on this feature whichever model you choose.

There are two main ways to fold a rollator. The most common type folds sideways like an accordion, making it quicker and easier to handle. This design also allows the rollator to remain upright when folded.

Other models fold forwards, so the rollator needs to be laid down once folded.

How to adjust your rollator to the correct height

Setting your rollator to the right height is essential for comfort, safety and good posture. If it’s too low or too high, it can cause discomfort in your back, shoulders and wrists.

Stand upright with your arms relaxed at your sides. The handles should be positioned so your elbows are slightly bent, at an angle of around 20–30 degrees. This usually means the handles are at around hip to waist height, depending on your height.

The benefits of choosing a lightweight rollator

A rollator typically weighs between 5 and 10 kg, depending on its material and wheel type.

Lightweight rollators are typically made from aluminium or carbon fibre. They’re significantly lighter than traditional rollators while still offering excellent stability and safety.

Their low weight makes them easy to manoeuvre both indoors and outdoors, which is especially helpful for users with reduced muscle strength or those who need to transport their rollator frequently. Many lightweight rollators fold easily and can be lifted into a car, bus or train, making them ideal for an active everyday life.

Modern lightweight rollators often feature ergonomic handles, adjustable height, effective brakes and comfortable seats, so users can take a rest along the way.

Road safety and visibility

When you’re outdoors, especially during the dark winter months, being visible is essential for your safety. Most outdoor models come with standard reflectors on the frame and wheels, but adding extra lighting is often a good idea. You can attach small LED lights to the frame to help drivers and cyclists see you from a distance. Remember to keep the reflectors clean, as dirt and mud can quickly reduce their effectiveness.

It’s also important to watch your footing. Wet leaves, ice and snow can make pavements slippery. Some manufacturers offer special winter tyres with a deeper tread for better grip in slippery conditions. If you feel unsteady on your feet in winter, it may be helpful to keep an indoor model at home and a sturdy outdoor model ready in the entrance hall or garage. That way, you won’t bring dirt and moisture in onto your carpets.

Maintenance and practical accessories

A mobility aid used every day needs a little maintenance to keep it working at its best. Regularly wipe the frame with a damp cloth to remove dirt and road salt, especially in winter. Check the brake cables for wear and tighten them if they start to feel loose. If your model has pneumatic tyres, check the tyre pressure regularly. Low tyre pressure makes the rollator considerably harder to push.

Accessories can make everyday life easier. A fixed basket or detachable bag is invaluable for shopping. For indoor use, a tray is handy for carrying cups of coffee and plates from the kitchen to the living room. Many people also add a cane holder, so their walking stick is always close at hand when they need to tackle stairs or get to places the wheels can’t reach.

Choosing the right rollator means understanding your own needs and everyday surroundings. If you’ll mainly use it indoors, measure the width of your door frames. If you’ll use it outdoors, consider the terrain in your local area.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rollators

Can one get a subsidy for a walker?

If you have a permanent disability, you can apply to your municipality for financial support for assistive devices—including rollators. If your application is approved, you're welcome to purchase your rollator from us at Seniorshop. Depending on your grant, you may be required to pay part of the cost yourself.

What does a rollator cost?

A walker typically costs between 800 and 4,000 kroner, depending on quality and intended use. Budget models are often made from heavier materials, feature simple wheels, and have minimal functions. In contrast, premium models use lighter and stronger materials like aluminum or carbon fiber, and come with superior wheels, suspension, and ergonomic features. This means greater comfort, durability, and ease of use for you.

Which rollator should I choose?

First and foremost, you need to consider whether you'll be using your rollator indoors, outdoors, or a combination of both. Keep in mind that an indoor rollator can only be used indoors, while an outdoor rollator is versatile enough for both indoor and outdoor use.

It's also important to think about the weight of the rollator. Opting for a lightweight model is advantageous, though they tend to be more expensive than standard ones, as they're made from specially lightweight materials like carbon fiber.
